The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured protesting teachers and civil society groups in Abuja that security agencies are actively working to secure the release of abducted teachers and students.

Wike gave the assurance on Tuesday while addressing protesters who gathered at the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Secretariat to demand urgent action following recent school kidnappings.

He said the Federal Government remains committed to ensuring the safe return of all victims, noting that security agencies are intensifying efforts to track and rescue them.

According to him, the security system is fully engaged and working under pressure to achieve prompt results.

Wike expressed confidence that Nigeria’s security institutions would succeed in rescuing the abducted victims, stressing the need for urgency in their operations.

However, he cautioned against politicising insecurity, describing it as a national issue that affects all parts of the country.

He noted that similar incidents in other regions had not attracted the same level of protest in the capital, urging Nigerians to respond with unity rather than division.

The minister also stated that security agencies were operating within established procedures and had made progress in ongoing rescue operations.

Wike added that no government would deliberately allow citizens to remain in captivity, stressing that authorities were doing everything possible under difficult circumstances.

He called for national solidarity in addressing insecurity, saying the safety of one community ultimately concerns the entire country.
