The Abia State Government has expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the recently held third-year anniversary celebration of the current administration in the state.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday, June 1, 2026, while briefing journalists at the Government House in Umuahia after the week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
He said the celebration offered the government an opportunity to assess its performance over the past three years across various sectors, including health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, and human development.
According to him, the review showed that the administration had recorded notable progress, particularly through initiatives such as the NKATA Development Programme, which is designed to empower youths across the 17 local government areas of the state.
He noted that youths from seven LGAs had already benefited from the programme, receiving a total of N306 million, while those from the remaining 10 LGAs would be supported in subsequent phases.
Kanu added that the positive assessment from the anniversary activities encouraged the governor to approve the commissioning and flag-off of additional projects across the state.
He also highlighted developments in the transport sector, including the operation of the Nnenna Otti Bus Terminal in Umuahia and the introduction of electric Green Shuttle buses aimed at modernising transportation in Abia.
According to him, computerized vehicle testing centres have been established and are now operational in Umuahia and Aba, while the Aba Bus Terminal project is nearing completion.
The commissioner further disclosed that work has commenced on the Ojukwu Bunker and War Museum in Umuahia in collaboration with the National War Museum Commission, while plans are underway to retrofit the Ibom Water Falls in Arochukwu to boost tourism and internally generated revenue.
He also announced that the government, in partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs and the governor’s wife’s office, plans to reenact the historic Aba Women’s Riot of 1929 as part of efforts to honour the women involved in the event, with cultural performances expected to feature artists from across the country.
