Abia APC Petitions National Leadership Over Alleged Diversion of Primary Election Materials

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned the party’s national leadership, demanding a full investigation into the alleged diversion of sensitive electoral materials intended for its National Assembly primary elections in the state.
In a petition dated May 25, 2026, and addressed to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the Abia State Working Committee accused an ICT staff member at the party’s National Secretariat of allegedly collaborating with a former Abia South senatorial aspirant to divert official result sheets meant for the primaries.
The petition, signed by Abia APC Chairman Chijioke Chukwu, described the allegation as electoral sabotage and a serious violation of the party’s internal democratic procedures.
According to the document, the incident reportedly occurred ahead of the National Assembly primaries held in May, with the accused staff member identified as Ahmed alleged to have removed sensitive materials from the approved custody chain and moved them to an undisclosed location.
The party further claimed that preliminary security findings suggested the diverted materials were intended for the production of alternative results that could influence the outcome of the primaries. It also raised concerns about possible financial inducements linked to the alleged scheme.
“The unauthorised diversion of electoral materials from the approved chain of custody was not merely an administrative lapse but a calculated attempt to compromise the credibility of the party’s primary election process,” the petition stated.
The Abia APC noted that concerns over the missing materials led the National Assembly Primaries Committee, headed by Erasmus Cishak, to request new result sheets from the National Working Committee after the original set was reportedly compromised.
Following the request, the National Working Committee approved and issued fresh security-sealed materials, which were later used for the senatorial primaries in the state.
The party has urged the national leadership to dismiss any official found culpable, refer the matter to security agencies for investigation and possible prosecution, and conduct a comprehensive audit of the ICT department at the national secretariat.
It warned that failure to address the allegations decisively could weaken confidence in the party’s internal electoral system ahead of the 2027 general elections.
