2027: Obidient Movement Alleges Plot to Block Peter Obi via ADC Crisis

The Obidient Movement has raised concerns over what it described as attempts to sideline Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking to journalists, the group’s National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, alleged that recent developments involving the African Democratic Congress were part of a broader plan to deny Obi a viable political platform.
Tanko claimed that the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission to derecognise factions within the ADC was not incidental but a calculated move aimed at weakening the party ahead of the elections.
He further alleged that efforts to frustrate Obi’s political ambitions date back to the aftermath of the 2023 general election, accusing elements within the ruling All Progressives Congress of fueling internal crises within opposition parties.
According to him, similar tactics were allegedly deployed within the Labour Party, where Obi was previously a key figure, making it difficult to stabilise the party despite attempts at reconciliation.
Tanko also linked recent political developments, including Obi’s visit to Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the subsequent alignment of key northern stakeholders with the ADC, to heightened political tension.
He pointed to a major rally held in Kano in March 2026, where prominent figures reportedly declared support for the ADC, as a turning point that intensified opposition against the party.
The Obidient Movement alleged that the ongoing leadership dispute within the ADC, coupled with INEC’s stance, could significantly impact the party’s ability to participate effectively in the 2027 elections.
Describing the situation as a threat to democratic principles, the group called for transparency and fairness in the electoral process, warning against actions that could undermine political competition in the country.
