US-Iran Ceasefire Faces Fresh Pressure Amid Rising Tensions in Strait of Hormuz

The fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran is facing renewed uncertainty as tensions rise once again in the Strait of Hormuz following fresh military exchanges and increased naval activity.
On Monday, the US Central Command said Iran launched cruise missiles, drones, and deployed small boats targeting US-flagged vessels in the strategic waterway. According to the US military, no ships were struck and there were no casualties.
Iran, however, described the strikes as “warning shots” directed near what it called hostile vessels. Iranian authorities claimed the action came after US destroyers attempted to move closer to the Strait of Hormuz, warning that such maneuvers would be treated as a breach of the ceasefire agreement.
The Strait of Hormuz has remained a long-standing flashpoint between both nations due to its strategic importance to global oil shipments. Iran’s geographical control of the area has often placed it in a strong position, while the US continues to project influence through its naval presence.
President Donald Trump has reportedly instructed US naval forces to maintain a blockade against Iran as part of ongoing operations in the region.
Speaking to Fox News, Trump issued a stern warning, saying Iran would be “blown off the face of the earth” if it attacked US vessels involved in what he described as “Project Freedom” in the Strait of Hormuz.
Project Freedom has been presented by the US as a humanitarian initiative intended to help escort and guide ships stranded due to Iran’s closure of the waterway.
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defence said it intercepted 12 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles, and four drones launched from Iran.
Earlier, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reported that a tanker linked to the state-owned oil company Adnoc was struck in the Strait of Hormuz.
When asked whether the ceasefire had officially been violated, Trump declined to give a direct answer, saying only, “we’ll let you know.”
