The Obidient Movement has described Peter Obi as a “talk-and-do” leader, saying his record in public office demonstrates consistency and accountability.
The National Coordinator of the movement, Yunusa Tanko, made the remark on Sunday during an interview on Arise Television, while reacting to Obi’s emergence as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party had on Saturday announced Obi as its presidential candidate for the upcoming election cycle.
Tanko said Obi stands out because he not only makes promises but also ensures they are fulfilled, adding that his supporters expect him to be held accountable for his commitments.
He referenced Obi’s tenure as governor of Anambra State, saying it reflected a strong commitment to delivering on promises.
“Peter Obi is different because he doesn’t just make promises, he keeps them and wants Nigerians to hold him accountable,” he said.
He further noted that Obi’s pledge to serve only a single four-year term was publicly affirmed within the party structure, including resolutions tied to zoning arrangements after his tenure.
According to him, this clarity reinforces Obi’s message of accountability and trust in leadership.
“For supporters, this is a clear signal that what he promises is what he intends to do, and it reinforces his message of accountability and trust in leadership,” Tanko added.
Following his confirmation as the NDC presidential candidate, Obi also unveiled former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate.
