The Labour Party in Abia State has announced that its governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly primaries will hold simultaneously on Saturday, May 30, 2026, across the 184 wards in the state.
The party said the exercise is in line with the directive of the national leadership of the Labour Party, which had earlier communicated the harmonised timetable for primary elections nationwide to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Abia State Publicity Secretary, Iroegbu Emenike, the party called on members, stakeholders, and aspirants across the 17 Local Government Areas and 184 wards to mobilise massively and participate actively in the democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement assured aspirants and party faithful of the leadership’s commitment to conducting a transparent, peaceful, credible, and inclusive primary election in strict compliance with the Electoral Act, the Labour Party Constitution, and established democratic procedures.
According to the party, adequate security arrangements have been put in place to guarantee a smooth, orderly, and hitch-free exercise across all wards in the state.
The leadership further disclosed that additional operational guidelines and directives would be communicated to party leaders and relevant stakeholders at the appropriate levels to ensure seamless coordination and effective conduct of the primaries.
The Labour Party also appealed to aspirants, party officials, and members to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and fully comply with all laid-down rules and directives throughout the exercise.
Reaffirming its commitment to strengthening the party’s political structure across Abia State, the leadership said preparations are already in top gear as the party positions itself strongly for victory in the 2027 general elections.
