The Nenadi Usman-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has scheduled a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting to ratify the results of its recently concluded primary elections across the country.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, announced that the NEC meeting will hold on June 11.
According to him, the council is also expected to approve the list of successful candidates emerging from the primaries for onward submission to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He explained that the decision is in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act as well as the party’s constitution.
Asogwa further stated that following the NEC’s ratification, the presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates for key positions—including President, Governor, Senate, and House of Representatives—will commence immediately.
“The party also wishes to inform all successful candidates from the primaries that the presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates for the offices of President, Governor, Senate, and House of Representatives shall commence immediately after the ratification of the primary election results by the NEC,” the statement read.
He added that the upcoming meeting would be the first NEC session since the party’s convention and is considered a crucial step in strengthening preparations and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Recall that the Labour Party conducted its nationwide primary elections on May 30.
The party had earlier announced Chibuzo Okereke, a governance expert and policy strategist, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
