Keyamo Urges Jonathan to Reject PDP Faction’s Reported 2027 Presidential Nomination

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to publicly reject a reported presidential nomination said to have been offered to him by a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Keyamo said the PDP faction behind the announcement is not recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and therefore lacks legitimacy.
A faction of the PDP led by Tanimu Turaki had recently announced Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. Another faction, reportedly aligned with supporters of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had earlier declared Senator Sandy Onor as its candidate.
Reacting in a post on X on Sunday, Keyamo described the development as a “bizarre comedy,” questioning the seriousness and legality of the nomination process.
“This is some kind of bizarre comedy taken too far by supposedly grown adults and some names that were actually in the corridors of power at some point in this country,” he wrote.
He further argued that the group making the nomination was not recognised among valid political structures, adding that it was improper to drag a former president into what he described as a political “charade.”
“Giving a whole Presidential ticket to an ex-President and statesman by proxy and by a bunch of people not even registered on INEC’s website… Quite sad,” he said.
Keyamo urged Jonathan to distance himself from the nomination to protect his reputation and international image.
“For the sake of his global image, President Goodluck Jonathan must immediately issue a strong ‘no, thank you’ statement,” he added.
As of the time of filing this report, Jonathan has not publicly responded to the nomination.
