The Deputy Commissioner of Operations in Delta State, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has cautioned Nigerians against pressuring security agencies to release or pardon suspected criminals.
In a post shared on his official X account on Monday, the former spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) described such actions as unacceptable, insisting that anyone who interferes with justice in favour of suspects is equally guilty.
“I always maintain my stance and principles when it comes to fighting crimes and criminality. Don’t even bother to contact me, pleading for a criminal. It’s shameful, and it won’t work out well,” he wrote.
He added that anyone who attempts to influence the release or pardon of a suspect, or seeks to weaken ongoing investigations, should also be considered complicit in criminal activity.
“Anyone begging and mounting pressure on the police and security agencies to release or pardon a criminal or overlook a crime is also a criminal,” he stated.
Adejobi further urged both security agencies and members of the public to remain firm in the fight against crime, stressing the need for collective responsibility in maintaining law and order.
“No two ways about it. We need to stand firm, remain resolute in curbing crimes and vices in our society, collectively,” he added.
His comments come amid ongoing security tensions, including reports of terrorists demanding the release of detained fighters in exchange for the freedom of an abducted retired Major General and abducted school pupils in Oyo State.
