Israel Deepens Agricultural Ties with Nigeria, Donates Three Ambulances

The State of Israel has reaffirmed its growing agricultural and development partnership with Nigeria, noting that Israeli technology and seedlings are already being used by Nigerian farmers across the country.

Speaking in Abuja during Israel’s 78th Independence Anniversary celebration, the Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, said Israeli companies are actively involved in agricultural projects in Nigeria, working alongside local farmers.

He explained that while Israeli seeds and technologies are being used, Nigerian farmers remain central to the cultivation process on local soil.

According to him, the cooperation between both countries is expanding beyond agriculture into sectors such as innovation, healthcare, security, education, and skills development.

“When it comes to agriculture, Israeli companies are already working in Nigeria today. These vegetables were grown from Israeli seedlings using Israeli technology but cultivated by Nigerian farmers on Nigerian soil,” he said.

He added that such initiatives represent shared progress and long-term investment in food security and rural development, rather than short-term assistance.

The ambassador also announced new commitments, including the launch of a fifth cohort of an entrepreneurship programme scheduled for 2027, as well as the donation of three fully equipped ambulances to Nigeria.

“These ambulances will help save lives where every minute counts. They are more than vehicles; they are a symbol of partnership and cooperation,” Freeman said.

He stressed that both countries were expanding collaboration in key sectors, describing the partnership as one focused on building a shared future through innovation and development.

Freeman further highlighted Israel’s transformation from a resource-limited nation into a global technology hub, attributing it to innovation-driven solutions in agriculture, water management, and technology.

He said Israel had successfully developed systems for desert farming, drip irrigation, precision agriculture, and seawater desalination, despite limited natural resources.

According to him, the country’s experience shows that challenges can be turned into opportunities through innovation and determination.

The envoy added that Nigeria also possesses strong potential due to its youthful population, entrepreneurial spirit, and vast agricultural resources, making collaboration between both countries highly beneficial.

He noted that ongoing programmes such as the Israel-supported IFARE initiative continue to empower young Nigerian entrepreneurs through mentorship and business development support.

Also speaking at the event, the Minister of Art, Culture and Tourism, Hannatu Musawa, congratulated Israel on its 78th Independence Anniversary and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

She said Nigeria and Israel share a longstanding relationship built on cooperation, cultural exchange, and economic development.

Musawa added that both countries are committed to deepening collaboration in agriculture, tourism, innovation, and the creative economy, while also emphasizing the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening international ties.
