Grief Engulfs Abia Community as Two Residents Die in Separate Road Accidents

A wave of grief swept through Ebem Ohafia in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State on Monday following the deaths of two indigenes in separate road accidents.

The victims, identified as Thompson Kalu and Uma Orji, lost their lives in incidents that occurred between Sunday evening and Monday morning.

According to reports, the first tragedy occurred on Sunday night when a truck allegedly operating without headlights collided with Thompson Kalu, who was riding a motorcycle.

The impact left Kalu with severe head injuries, and he reportedly died at the scene before he could be taken to a hospital for treatment.

A few hours later, another fatal accident claimed the life of Uma Orji, popularly known as Ome Ego.

Orji was said to have died on Monday morning in a lone accident after the truck he was travelling in crashed and overturned, trapping him underneath.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Federal Road Safety Corps nor the Nigeria Police Force had issued an official statement on the incidents.

Reacting to the losses, the paramount ruler of the Ebem Ohafia Ancient Kingdom, Ezie Ukoha Kalu, alongside the Ezie-in-Council and the Ebem Ohafia Development Union (EODU), expressed deep sorrow over the deaths.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union, Ifeanyi Okali, the community described the incidents as a profound shock and a painful loss of two respected sons of the area.

“The unfortunate incidents have thrown the entire Ebem Ohafia community into mourning, as the deceased were hardworking and responsible individuals who were striving daily to provide for their families and contribute meaningfully to society,” the statement said.

The community also extended its condolences to the families of the deceased, as residents continue to mourn the tragic loss of the two men.
