Ghanaian Priest Claims Spiritual Mission to Stop Harry Kane Ahead of England Clash

A Ghanaian traditional priest, Nana Kwaku Bonsam, has claimed that he is carrying out spiritual preparations aimed at stopping England captain Harry Kane from influencing the outcome of the Black Stars’ upcoming FIFA World Cup clash.

The claim was shared by TouchlineX, a football update platform on X, where Bonsam was quoted as saying he was “working on” the England striker ahead of the match.

“I am working on Harry Kane. I have shown what I am capable of before, so I know what work I must do to stop him. I am not wishing him serious injury. It will be just enough to stop him against my country. I will do my work so that it can help Ghana,” he said.

The statement quickly attracted attention online, with football supporters reacting to the unusual development ahead of the highly anticipated fixture.

Bonsam, who has been described in previous reports as one of Ghana’s notable traditional priests, has made similar claims in the past.

During the 2014 FIFA World Cup, he reportedly claimed responsibility for Cristiano Ronaldo’s knee injury when Portugal faced Ghana, a statement that also generated significant public debate at the time.

The upcoming England-Ghana encounter has already drawn considerable interest as part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage.

Ghana began its campaign with a 1-0 victory over Panama, while England also started strongly, with Kane among the players on the scoresheet.

Following Bonsam’s latest comments, social media users shared mixed reactions, with some questioning the approach and others treating it as entertainment or pre-match mind games.

One user, #Spotless_213, questioned why the focus was on stopping an opponent rather than helping Ghana achieve success, writing: “Why is he not working on Ghana to win the match or rather win the World Cup trophy?”

Another user, #M4Mogul, dismissed the claim as an attempt to attract attention, saying: “Bro can’t work to fix his country but wants to work Harry Kane. I know a clout chaser when I see one.”

Meanwhile, #watchmetry77 referred to Bonsam’s previous claim involving Ronaldo, stating: “If he really said this, then Harry Kane is scoring a hat-trick…. This man ‘tied’ Ronaldo’s leg in 2014 only for him to score his only goal of the tournament against Ghana.”

The comments have continued to generate discussion among African football fans on X, with some viewing the priest’s statement as part of pre-match drama, while others argued that results should be determined by tactics, preparation, and performance on the pitch.

England and Ghana are scheduled to meet in their second Group L match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
