Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has won the 2026 Professional Footballers’ Association Players’ Player of the Year award.

The Portuguese midfielder received the prestigious honour at the 53rd annual PFA Awards ceremony held at the Manchester Opera House in Manchester, United Kingdom, on Tuesday.

Fernandes was voted the outstanding player of the 2025/26 season by his fellow professionals, beating five other nominees in the men’s category.

The shortlist also featured Manchester City duo Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki, alongside Arsenal trio Declan Rice, David Raya and Gabriel Magalhães.

The award caps an impressive campaign for Fernandes, who played a key role in Manchester United’s third-place finish in the Premier League and their return to the UEFA Champions League.

The midfielder also enjoyed a record-breaking season, registering 21 assists in the Premier League. He had previously been named the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year and the Premier League Player of the Season.

Haaland entered the race after winning the Premier League Golden Boot for the third time, having scored 27 goals in 35 league appearances for Manchester City.

His City teammate Cherki was also recognised following an impressive first season in English football, while Arsenal had three players on the final shortlist after their title-winning campaign.

The PFA Players’ Player of the Year award is particularly notable because the winner is selected by fellow professional footballers rather than fans, journalists or a judging panel.

Fernandes’ latest recognition adds to a growing list of individual honours for the Manchester United captain, who has remained one of the club’s most influential players since joining the team in January 2020.
