China Calls on Iran to Reopen Strait of Hormuz, Pushes for End to Conflict

China has called on Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and work toward ending its ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel, following a request from the Trump administration for Beijing’s diplomatic support.

The appeal was made during a meeting in Beijing between China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, and his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, according to Chinese state media.

During the talks, Wang emphasised the urgency of halting hostilities, stressing that delays in pursuing peace negotiations could worsen the situation.

He noted that China supports an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire, warning against any escalation of the conflict. Wang also underscored the importance of sustained dialogue as the best path toward resolution.

In addition, he highlighted the need to restore normal operations in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil shipments and international trade.

At the peak of the conflict in March, vessels linked to Iran and China were still navigating the strait. However, the situation shifted after the United States imposed a full blockade on Iranian ports, significantly disrupting maritime traffic in the region.
