2027: Kwankwaso Not a “Spare Tyre” — Peter Obi Promises Equal Partnership in Government

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has pledged to run an inclusive administration in partnership with his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Obi said the role of the Vice President in his proposed government would not be ceremonial or symbolic, stressing that Kwankwaso would be fully involved in decision-making and governance.

He made the remarks after officially naming Kwankwaso as his running mate at the NDC national convention held in Abuja on Saturday.

Both Obi and Kwankwaso contested the last presidential election, where they finished in third and fourth positions respectively, behind former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and President Bola Tinubu, who was declared winner.

Kwankwaso, who ran under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), won only in Kano State, where he maintains strong political influence.

Obi insisted that their partnership would be based on equality and mutual respect.

“The government we plan to create will not be one where anyone can claim that the vice president is just a spare part,” he said.

“The vice president will be a partner because we aim to create a country where two equal individuals work together for the country’s success.

“Decisions will be taken as partners. Everybody will be consulted. That’s what we need, and that’s how the government works.”

He added that Kwankwaso shares similar values, particularly in education, security, and social inclusion.

“He believes in education and security. We will join forces to make sure it happens,” Obi said.
