The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that the various projects being commissioned across Abuja would not have been possible without the support and backing of President Bola Tinubu.
Wike made the statement on Monday during the commissioning of the Water Supply Network to Karu Satellite Town, one of the projects being delivered as part of activities marking President Tinubu’s third year in office.
The President was represented at the event by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
According to Wike, President Tinubu had, during the second anniversary celebration of his administration, directed that development efforts should extend beyond Abuja city centre to satellite towns.
He said the directive was reflected in the 2025 National Budget, which included provisions for water supply projects in satellite communities within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Karu, neighbouring communities, and Bwari Area Council.
“Mr President, you will recall that last year when you were having the second year anniversary and commissioning of Abuja Greater Water Supply, you did say that we should move from the city to the Satellite Town,” Wike said.
He explained that the timely release of funds provided in the national budget allowed the project to be completed within a short period.
“Because you directed the full and early release of what was provided in the national budget, today, less than one year, you have come back to commission the provision of water in Karu and its neighbouring communities,” he said.
The minister noted that the contract for the project was awarded in August 2025 and completed in less than one year, adding that a similar water supply project in Bwari Area Council would be commissioned on July 14.
Wike stressed that infrastructure development should not only focus on roads and other projects within the city centre but must also address essential needs such as access to water in satellite communities.
“Like you have said, it’s not only providing infrastructure in the city, it’s not only providing roads in the satellite towns, but that which is very fundamental, which is water, must also be given to the people,” he said.
He expressed confidence that residents would appreciate the impact of the projects, describing them as evidence that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration was yielding results.
“I’m sure that the community would be happy and smiling that, to the glory of God, the Renewed Hope Agenda is working and people can see it,” Wike added.
