Popular social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), led a mass protest in Abuja on Wednesday night against the worsening security situation in Nigeria.
VDM, who arrived in the country from China around 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, led members of the Ratel Movement to the Nigerian Air Force Base in Abuja to express their concerns over the rising cases of insecurity across the country.
In viral video clips circulating on social media, the protesters were seen chanting slogans such as “Tinubu must go, APC must go, bandits must go, terrorists must go” as they marched towards the facility.
The protest was directed at the administration of President Bola Tinubu, with demonstrators criticizing the handling of the country’s security challenges. The All Progressives Congress was also mentioned during the chants.
VDM, who has been a vocal critic of the government, has consistently spoken out about the rise in kidnappings and killings in different parts of the country.
While in China, he had accused the administration of incompetence and urged Nigerians to consider voting out the ruling party in the 2027 general elections.
Ahead of his return, the activist also raised concerns about a possible attempt to have him arrested upon arrival, a claim that generated tension among his supporters.
Supporters of the Ratel Movement had gathered earlier at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja before his arrival into the country.
