Tinubu Not Threatened by Peter Obi, Presidency Insists

The Presidency has dismissed suggestions that President Bola Tinubu feels threatened by the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, insisting that the current administration is focused on its record of performance.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, made the remarks during the latest edition of the Mic On Podcast, where he responded to comments and criticisms from the opposition.

According to Dare, the administration has every right to respond to calls by Obi for President Tinubu to resign, just as the opposition has the right to express its views.

"This government is not afraid of Peter Obi. The same right he has to ask Tinubu to resign is the same right the government has to respond to him that the president will not resign. There is no basis or reason for the president to resign," he said.

Dare also stressed that Nigeria operates a constitutional democratic system in which leaders are elected every four years, noting that any change in leadership should come through the electoral process.

"The right that the government has is to educate and say that you need to go back to school. We run a presidential system. We have elections every four years, not just for the president but also for the Senate and the House of Representatives.

"That's where you can go back to the citizens. So, nobody is afraid of Peter Obi," he stated.

The presidential aide argued that although Obi may previously have been regarded as a political threat, the Tinubu administration now believes its achievements have strengthened its position.

"He is not a nightmare. Maybe before, Peter Obi was a threat, but right now, Peter Obi is no threat because we stand on solid ground of performance.

"We are able to interrogate the problems of this country. Peter Obi will not defeat President Tinubu in Lagos again," Dare said.
