Nigeria's Super Falcons produced a commanding performance on Wednesday, defeating Egypt 6-2 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2026 TotalEnergies Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The defending champions went into their final Group C fixture knowing they needed a strong result after suffering a surprise defeat to Malawi in their opening game before edging Zambia 1-0 to revive their campaign.

Their emphatic victory over Egypt secured a place in the knockout stage as the Super Falcons continue their pursuit of a record-extending 11th WAFCON title.

Playing with confidence at the Rabat Olympic Stadium, Justine Madugu's side dominated proceedings and delivered one of the tournament's most impressive attacking displays.

Nigeria took the lead in the 21st minute when Asisat Oshoala calmly converted a penalty.

Gift Monday doubled the advantage deep into first-half stoppage time after being set up by Rinsola Babajide, but Egypt pulled one back moments later through a penalty converted by Nadine Ghazi, leaving the score at 2-1 at halftime.

The Super Falcons returned for the second half with renewed intensity and quickly took control of the contest.

Babajide registered her second assist of the evening in the 57th minute, setting up Uchenna Kanu to restore Nigeria's two-goal lead.

Christy Ucheibe added a fourth goal from the penalty spot in the 81st minute before Ghazi scored her second of the match three minutes later to make it 4-2.

Any hopes of an Egyptian comeback were quickly extinguished as Rasheedat Ajibade converted another penalty to extend Nigeria's lead before providing the assist for Joy Omewa, who added the sixth goal in the ninth minute of stoppage time to complete the rout.

The victory marked an impressive turnaround for the Super Falcons, who recovered from their opening 3-2 loss to tournament debutants Malawi by recording back-to-back wins over Zambia and Egypt to finish the group stage with six points.

Despite Nigeria's convincing win, Malawi finished top of Group C after defeating Zambia 2-1 in the group's other final fixture.

Malawi, Nigeria and Zambia all ended the group stage with six points, but Malawi claimed first place on the tiebreak criteria. Zambia were eliminated, while Egypt finished bottom of the group without a point after losing all three matches and conceding 15 goals.

Nigeria now head into the quarter-finals with renewed confidence as they continue their quest to defend their continental crown in Morocco.
