Police Arrest Two for Alleged Vandalism and Theft of Government Property in Abia

The Abia State Police Command has arrested two men for allegedly vandalising and stealing government property along the Umuahia–Uzuakoli Road axis.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday. She identified the suspects as 23-year-old Emmanuel Ogonna and 25-year-old Ifeanychukwu Oko, both from Lohom, Uzuakoli, in Bende Local Government Area of the state.
According to the police, several items suspected to have been stolen and vandalised were recovered from the suspects. The recovered items include 49 angle irons, two saws, three spanners, three small iron boards, and 86 electrical poles.
Chinaka said the suspects were apprehended following intelligence received by the police.
The statement explained that operatives attached to the Mike Okiro Divisional Police Headquarters arrested the suspects during a stop-and-search operation along the Uzuakoli Road on June 19, 2026.
“Leveraging on actionable intelligence, operatives of the Mike Okiro Divisional Police Headquarters, along Uzuakoli Road on 19/06/2026, during a stop-and-search operation along Uzuakoli Road, apprehended the above-mentioned suspects in an auto-rickshaw (Keke Napep) and recovered from them the items, all suspected to have been vandalised and stolen,” the statement read.
The police command stated that the suspects allegedly confessed to vandalising and stealing the recovered materials during interrogation.
According to the statement, the case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Danladi Isa, reiterated the command’s commitment to preventing and combating crime across the state.
He also appealed to residents to support security efforts by promptly reporting suspicious individuals and activities to the nearest police station or relevant security agencies.
