Otti Promises Major Solar Energy Rollout in Abia Within 14 Days

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to accelerating renewable energy deployment across the state in partnership with the Federal Government.

The governor made the pledge on Thursday while receiving a delegation from the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and other federal agencies at the Government House in Umuahia.

Otti said the state government would move swiftly to address outstanding operational issues and activate existing agreements with the Federal Government to ensure residents benefit from ongoing renewable energy initiatives.

Expressing confidence in the state's preparedness, the governor assured the delegation that tangible progress would be visible within the next two weeks.

"Just watch us and see what will happen in the next 14 days. You can be sure that you will hear from us within the next 14 days, and the lowest-hanging fruit is this initiative covering ten states," Otti said.

Speaking during the visit, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Aliyu, disclosed that the Federal Government has completed the mapping of communities across the country to identify areas in need of rural electrification.

He also revealed that the Federal Government is currently deploying 1,000 mini-grids across several states as part of efforts to improve electricity access and address persistent power supply challenges.

The development comes amid ongoing concerns over electricity shortages in parts of Abia State.

Recently, the Abia State House of Assembly expressed concern over the prolonged blackout affecting areas served by Aba Power Limited, with the disruption attributed to a gas supply shortage.
