The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abia State Command, has inaugurated its Senior and Junior Disciplinary, Safe School and Personnel Studying Approval committees.

The command also commissioned three refurbished Hilux operational vehicles provided through the intervention of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.

Speaking at the event in Umuahia, the state capital, on Wednesday, the State Commandant, Chukwuemeka Odimba, urged members of the committees to uphold integrity and carry out their responsibilities without bias.

Odimba reminded them that their decisions could have significant consequences for the careers, welfare and professional development of other personnel.

“You have been entrusted with responsibilities that can directly affect the careers, welfare and professional growth of your colleagues. Therefore, avoid personal interests, bias, favouritism and any form of conduct that may compromise the integrity of the committees,” he advised.

The commandant also charged the committee members to maintain accurate records, protect confidential information, submit reports promptly and ensure that their recommendations were clear and consistent with the corps’ ethics, rules and regulations.

He expressed confidence that their collective experience, commitment and sense of responsibility would enable them to discharge their duties effectively and contribute to the efficient administration of the Abia State Command.

During the commissioning of the operational vehicles, Odimba, who spoke on behalf of the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Audi, appreciated Governor Otti for supporting the command.

He said the governor's intervention had significantly improved the operational capacity of the corps in the state.

“In less than six months, he has been able to provide us with five vehicles to carry out our assignments, and he has also promised to provide the remaining 10 vehicles and also give us new vehicles because he appreciates the importance of security,” Odimba said.

The commandant recalled several other interventions by the governor in support of the NSCDC State Command.

These, he said, included the provision of water, an observation point, more than 20 plots of land for the corps' permanent headquarters and sponsorship of personnel to participate in capacity-building programmes.

Speaking on behalf of the newly inaugurated committees, the Chairman and Deputy Commandant, Operations, Ogota Emmanuel, assured residents that the NSCDC would continue working to ensure the safety and security of people across Abia State.

He said the corps, through the Safe School Committee and other committees, would remain committed to making the state safer for all.
