The 2027 Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has described the Hausa people as important contributors to Nigeria’s progress.

Obi made the remarks in a post on his verified X handle while commemorating International Hausa Day in Daura, Katsina State.

The former Anambra State governor commended the Hausa community for its contributions to Nigeria’s growth and development through its culture, traditions, enterprise, agriculture, scholarship, public service and community development.

He said Nigeria’s diversity remained one of the country’s greatest strengths, stressing that its future depended on recognising and respecting the contributions of all communities.

“I warmly congratulate the Hausa community across Nigeria as they observe their Day in Daura, Katsina State. The Hausa people are the pillars of Nigeria’s progress,” Obi said.

He described the celebration as an opportunity to honour the Hausa people’s heritage while reaffirming the bonds that unite Nigerians.

“As you celebrate in Katsina, I wish you peace, prosperity and a renewed sense of hope. May this occasion bolster our unity and inspire us to build a Nigeria where every citizen, regardless of ethnicity or background, has equal opportunities to flourish,” he added.
