Governor Otti Charges Fathers To Lead With Faith, Integrity And Responsibility At Aba Ngwa North Fathers’ Day Celebration

The Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has called on fathers to embrace their God-given responsibility as nurturers, moral guides, and builders of society, stressing that strong families remain the foundation for sustainable development and nation-building.

The Governor made the call on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the 2026 Fathers’ Day Celebration of the Anglican Diocese of Aba Ngwa North held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Umuocham, Aba, where he was ably represented by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE.

Addressing the congregation on behalf of the Governor, Engr. Emetu conveyed the warm greetings and goodwill of the Government and people of Abia State to the Bishop, clergy, fathers, and faithful of the Diocese, while commending the Church for its consistent commitment to the promotion of moral values, family cohesion, and spiritual development in society.

He paid glowing tribute to the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Aba Ngwa North, the Rt. Rev. Nathan Kanu, PhD, for his exemplary spiritual leadership and unwavering dedication to the propagation of the Gospel and the growth of the Church.

The Governor also acknowledged the Vicar of St. Paul’s Anglican Church and Supervisor of the Umuocham Archdeaconry, Rev. Canon Emmanuel Ehilegbu, alongside other clergy and Church leaders, for their steadfast service to God and commitment to the spiritual well-being of the faithful.

In a special recognition, the Governor honoured the founder of St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Venerable Dr. Lawrence Utaegbulam (Rtd), a distinguished medical practitioner and revered Church leader, who at 96 years continues to exemplify service, sacrifice, integrity, and unwavering faith. He described him as a living legacy whose vision and dedication laid the foundation for the growth of the Church and generations of worshippers.

Describing fatherhood as a sacred trust, the Governor stated:

“Fatherhood is not merely a family responsibility; it is also a nation-building responsibility. Strong families produce responsible citizens, and responsible citizens contribute to the growth and development of our State and nation.”

He further emphasized the importance of fathers leading with integrity, discipline, and compassion, noting that godly leadership in the home is essential for building a stable and progressive society.

“A father is not merely the head of a household but a steward entrusted with the responsibility of nurturing lives, shaping character, and building a godly legacy for future generations,” he added.

The Governor commended fathers across Abia State for their resilience and sacrifices in the face of economic and social challenges, assuring them of his administration’s continued commitment to improving livelihoods through investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, and economic empowerment.

He also encouraged young men to prepare for responsible fatherhood by embracing discipline, education, hard work, and a strong relationship with God.

Earlier in his remarks, the Director-General of the Abia State Strategic Communications Bureau, Sir Onyebuchi Ememanka, expressed appreciation to the Governor for honouring the Church’s invitation through his representation.

He noted that the Governor’s participation underscored his administration’s closeness to the people and its commitment to inclusive governance, value reorientation, and community engagement.

The event featured special prayers for fathers, thanksgiving, recognition of distinguished fathers within the Diocese, and tributes to the founder of the Church.

The Fathers’ Day celebration was attended by government officials, including the Mayor of Osisioma Ngwa LGA, Hon. Chief Chidi Chris Agu, political stakeholders, and members of the Anglican faithful from across the Diocese.
