Georgina Rodriguez Explains Why She and Ronaldo Married in Their Living Room

Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez got married on August 11, 2026, nearly a decade after they first met at a Gucci store in Madrid, where Rodriguez worked as a sales assistant.

The couple exchanged vows at their summer home in Cascais, a coastal resort near Lisbon, Portugal, in an intimate ceremony attended by their five children and four witnesses.

Speaking to Vogue, Rodriguez explained that choosing their living room as the setting for the wedding was intentional, saying her idea of an ideal wedding had changed as she grew older and built a family with Ronaldo.

“As a little girl, I envisioned the grandest castle, the most magnificent carriage, the longest gown and a crown adorned with diamonds,” she said.

“Now, I find myself saying: no. I desire something intimate, shared with my partner and our children, in the comfort of our home. We have access to castles, houses, islands, horses, and cars every day. However, an intimate gathering is something more unique for us.”

Rodriguez said the couple deliberately chose their living room because it is where they spend much of their everyday family life.

“We chose to hold the ceremony in our living room, the place where we share breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and where we experience our daily lives.

“In 30 years, I want our children to remember that something wonderful occurred at this table, the wedding vows of our parents.”

For the occasion, Rodriguez wore a white silk Gucci skirt suit paired with satin shoes, while Ronaldo dressed in a light beige suit and custom loafers.

Gucci’s artistic director, Demna Gvasalia, said the fashion house was a meaningful choice because Rodriguez first met Ronaldo at its Madrid store in 2016.

“It felt incredibly special to dress Georgina and Cristiano for this moment, knowing their love story began in a Gucci store in Madrid. There is something so romantic about it—a beautiful circle closing, almost like a modern fairy tale,” he said.

Although the couple opted for a private ceremony, Rodriguez revealed that a larger celebration involving family and friends would be held later.

“In the future, we will have a big wedding, so we can celebrate with family and friends,” she said.

Ronaldo and Rodriguez made their relationship public in 2016 and announced their engagement a year before their wedding. Their engagement was sealed with an oval-shaped diamond ring reportedly weighing approximately 35 carats.
