The Project Manager of GELD Construction Company, Engineer Sourabh Mhala, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to delivering a world-class road infrastructure project on the ongoing Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road Expansion and Reconstruction Project in Abia State.

Mhala stated that GELD Construction Company has maintained a strong presence in Abia State since 2023, successfully executing major infrastructure projects, including the 30-kilometre road project and the iconic Omenuko Bridge, both commissioned by the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, in February 2026.

Speaking on the ongoing Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road project, the project manager disclosed that the 31-kilometre expansion and reconstruction project was flagged off by Governor Alex Otti in November 2025 and has continued to progress steadily according to schedule.

He noted that construction work is ongoing along several sections of the road corridor, with the company maintaining a strong pace of execution.

According to him, the project involves widening the existing roadway from about 7.3 metres to as much as 30 metres in some areas, while also constructing comprehensive drainage systems on both sides of the road to improve durability and ensure proper water management.

Mhala highlighted that the project is being executed with strong engineering specifications, including:

20cm Stone Base Course

6cm Binder Course

4cm Wearing Course

He explained that these specifications are designed to provide strong structural capacity, smoother road surfaces, improved driving experience, and long-term resistance against harsh weather conditions and heavy traffic.

The project manager assured residents and road users that GELD Construction Company remains focused on delivering infrastructure that meets global standards in quality, safety, and durability.

“Our goal is to provide a high-quality, superior, first-class, and state-of-the-art road that will stand the test of time. The road is being constructed to ensure excellent surface smoothness, strong structural integrity, efficient drainage, and overall resilience against adverse weather conditions. We are on schedule and confident of completing the project within the stipulated contract period,” Mhala stated.

The Umuahia–Ikot Ekpene Road project is expected to improve transportation links, stimulate economic activities, enhance interstate connectivity, and contribute to the infrastructure development agenda of the Alex Otti administration in Abia State.
