Four suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have been killed, while 12 logistics boats belonging to the group were destroyed in precision airstrikes around Kangarwa in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the operation was conducted at about 12:55 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, following an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance mission that detected a large concentration of suspected terrorist logistics boats along the riverbank.

Makama said 44 boats suspected to belong to the terrorist group were initially sighted around Kangarwa before Nigerian Air Force aircraft launched an airstrike on the area.

He said another aircraft conducting an armed reconnaissance mission remained overhead after the initial strike and observed terrorists attempting to salvage and load some of the damaged boats.

“Following the first strike, another aircraft conducting an armed reconnaissance mission remained overhead and observed terrorists attempting to salvage and load some of the damaged boats.

“The aircraft subsequently carried out a precision strike on terrorists gathered around a larger cluster of boats,” Makama stated.

According to the report, a subsequent battle damage assessment indicated that four suspected terrorists were neutralised and 12 terrorist logistics boats were destroyed.

The aircraft reportedly remained in the area after the strike to monitor further movements and provide continued surveillance.
