The General Manager of the Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA), Mr Kingsley Agomuoh, has commended Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, for his foresight in upgrading existing infrastructure and developing new ones ahead of emerging needs in the state.
Agomuoh gave the commendation while reacting to the fire outbreak that occurred at Aka God Filling Station, Nkwoegwu, Ohuhu, in Umuahia North Local Government Area.
He said the incident was brought under control quickly because the improved road infrastructure allowed well-equipped fire service vehicles to gain access to the scene without delay.
The UCDA boss noted that the incident called for gratitude to God as no life was lost, while also praising the Umuahia Fire Service for its swift response and professionalism in containing the inferno.
He commended government officials, including the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Ease of Doing Business, Barrister Jennifer Agbonma Abazie; the lawmaker representing Umuahia North State Constituency, Hon. Anderson Akaliro; and the Chairman of Umuahia North Local Government Area, Hon. Smart Iheoma, among others, for their presence and efforts in managing the situation.
Agomuoh also appreciated residents of Nkwoegwu, who he said came out in large numbers to assist during the emergency.
It would be recalled that a petrol tanker discharging fuel at Aka God Filling Station, Nkwoegwu, Ohuhu, Umuahia, caught fire and burned for several hours.
However, the timely intervention of personnel from the Umuahia Fire Service Station helped bring the situation under control, with no loss of life recorded.
