The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has honoured fathers across Nigeria, describing them as unsung heroes whose sacrifices, dedication and resilience play a vital role in sustaining families and building society.
In a Father’s Day message issued on Sunday in Abuja, the lawmaker praised fathers and father figures for their commitment to raising children, supporting families and contributing to community development.
Father’s Day is observed globally to recognise the contributions of fathers and father figures in nurturing families, shaping values and influencing future generations.
Natasha noted that despite the economic difficulties facing many Nigerian households, fathers continue to shoulder important responsibilities as providers, protectors, mentors and sources of guidance.
She said, “On this special Father’s Day, I celebrate all fathers and father figures whose steadfast commitment, love, and sacrifices continue to strengthen our families and communities.
“Fathers are truly the unsung heroes of our society. Their tireless efforts, resilience and devotion deserve our deepest appreciation.”
The senator stressed that responsible fatherhood remains a key element of nation-building, noting that the values and principles fathers instil in their children help shape a peaceful and prosperous society.
According to her, fathers serve as role models whose influence extends beyond the family setting by helping young people develop strong character and maintain hope for the future.
“A father’s wisdom, discipline and example leave a lasting impact on the lives of children. Through their sacrifices and guidance, fathers nurture dreams, build character and inspire hope. Their influence extends beyond the home and contributes significantly to the moral fabric of our society,” she said.
Natasha encouraged fathers to remain committed to their responsibilities despite current challenges, urging them to continue providing positive leadership within their homes and communities.
She also called on young Nigerians to embrace values such as integrity, hard work, humility and compassion, describing these virtues as essential for personal success and national progress.
The senator further urged families, communities and society at large to appreciate the role of fathers, emphasising that strong families remain the foundation for sustainable development and national advancement.
