Ex-VP Harris slams Trump for dragging US into unwanted Iran conflict

Former United States Vice President Kamala Harris has strongly criticised President Donald Trump over recent American military strikes in Iran, accusing him of dragging the country into what she described as a “dangerous and unnecessary gamble.”
In a statement issued on Saturday and shared via the X app, Harris escalated political opposition to the administration’s actions, positioning herself as a leading critic of what she termed a potential “regime-change war.”
Harris, who served as Vice President from 2021 to 2025, argued that the military escalation lacks the support of the American people.
“Donald Trump is dragging the United States into a war the American people do not want,” she wrote.
“Let me be clear: I am opposed to a regime-change war in Iran, and our troops are being put in harm’s way for the sake of Trump’s war of choice,” she added.
The former vice president questioned the President’s judgment and referenced his past campaign promises, saying the current actions contradict earlier non-interventionist rhetoric.
“What we are witnessing is not strength. It is recklessness dressed up as resolve.
“During the campaign, Donald Trump promised to end wars rather than start them. It was a lie,” Harris stated.
She also raised constitutional concerns regarding the authorisation of military force, calling on Congress to exercise its oversight responsibilities to prevent further escalation.
“Under the Constitution of the United States, the President must receive authorization from Congress to enter a war.
“But even if he had, that does not change the fact this action is unwise, unjustified, and not supported by the American people,” the statement continued.
Harris further highlighted the potential human cost of the conflict, stressing the need for caution and responsible leadership at a time of heightened tensions.
“Our troops deserve a Commander-in-Chief who approaches decisions on matters of war and peace with the same steadiness and discipline our troops show every day,” she concluded.
As of the time of filing this report, the White House had yet to issue a formal response to Harris’ remarks.
