Abia State Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, has expressed grief over the death of His Royal Highness, Ezie Ukoha Kalu Ukoha, JP, Ezieogo and Paramount Ruler of Ebem Ujuruzie Ancient Kingdom.

The respected monarch died on September 26, 2026, at the age of 89.

In his condolence message, Emetu described the monarch’s death as the end of an important era in the history of Ebem Ujuruzie, noting that Ezie Ukoha Kalu Ukoha spent many years on the throne and witnessed the growth of several generations within the community.

The Deputy Governor said the traditional institution derives its significance not only from titles and ceremonies but also from the wisdom, restraint, experience and moral authority of those entrusted with traditional leadership.

He noted that the late Ezieogo’s years of service formed an important part of the institutional history of Ebem Oha and that his absence would be deeply felt by members of the royal family, traditional rulers, elders and residents who relied on his counsel on community matters.

Emetu extended his condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the Council of Chiefs and the entire people of Ebem Ujuruzie Ancient Kingdom.

He also sympathised with Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa, Member Representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, and others affected by the monarch’s passing.

The Deputy Governor prayed that God would grant comfort and strength to the bereaved family and the entire Ebem Oha community, while asking for the peaceful repose of the late monarch’s soul.

Emetu further urged the people of Ebem Ujuruzie to preserve the late traditional ruler’s memory by continuing to uphold peace, communal bonds and the cultural heritage that define the identity of the kingdom.
