Veteran Nigerian musician, Eedris Abdulkareem, has unveiled a new governance accountability initiative, the Nigerian Governors’ Report Card Series, aimed at assessing the performance of state governors and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

The initiative, unveiled by Lakreem Entertainment during a press conference in Lagos, will evaluate the 36 state governors and the FCT Minister based on key governance indicators, including infrastructure development, security, prudent management of public funds and the delivery of democratic dividends.

Speaking at the event, Abdulkareem said the initiative was designed to promote accountability among governors, particularly following the increase in financial allocations to states arising from recent economic reforms.

He explained that the report card series would recognise governors who demonstrate effective leadership while also drawing public attention to administrations that fail to meet the expectations of their citizens.

“The Nigerian Governors’ Report Card Series will beam penetrative searchlights on all the 36 state governments and the FCT, celebrating their successes when and where they deserve it and publicly calling them out for their incompetence and visionlessness where and when applicable,” he said.

Abdulkareem announced that Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, would be the first governor featured in the series, describing him as a transformative leader whose administration had recorded notable developmental achievements.

The maiden edition of the project includes three songs dedicated to Otti: ‘Overcoming Challenges’, ‘Inspired to Serve’ and ‘Vacancy No Dey’.

According to Abdulkareem, ‘Overcoming Challenges’ tells the story of Otti’s resilience and determination in overcoming political obstacles on his journey to becoming governor.

He said ‘Inspired to Serve’ highlights Otti’s vision of rebuilding and repositioning Abia State, while ‘Vacancy No Dey’ celebrates what he described as the administration’s achievements during its first three years in office.

The musician added that the songs were produced following interactions with residents across Abia State, stressing that the project was intended to reflect the people’s assessment of the governor’s performance.

Also speaking at the press conference, media consultant Myke Pam said Lakreem Entertainment chose to focus on state governments because governors now receive substantially higher allocations following the removal of fuel subsidy and other fiscal reforms.

He said the organisation would assess every state and the FCT, celebrating governors who deliver on their mandates while publicly highlighting administrations that fall short of citizens’ expectations.

The event also featured the unveiling of Abdulkareem’s son, Abdulraheem, popularly known as DJ Papi, as the official disc jockey of Lakreem Entertainment.
