Dr Chima Anyaso to Represent Bende at University of Derby Law School Global Conference

The Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 elections, Dr Desmond Chimaobi Anyaso, OFUJI, will on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, deliver the keynote address at the University of Derby Law School Annual Conference in Derby, England.

Dr Anyaso was invited to address the gathering of international experts, academics, and professionals who will examine ways of addressing societal challenges through developments in international economic law.

According to the organisers, the invitation was extended to Dr Anyaso “in recognition of his life achievements, his extension of opportunity to people, and his contributions to the advancement of society.”

Established in 1992, the University of Derby Law School has built a reputation as a respected institution of higher learning in the United Kingdom and beyond.

The institution received a Gold rating in the 2023 Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF), recognising its strong performance in student experience and outcomes. It is also ranked second in the United Kingdom for graduate employability, with 94 per cent of its graduates securing employment or continuing with further studies.

The annual conference is organised under the Centre for Justice, Law and Society, which was established in 2023 as a platform for academics, legal practitioners, and experts to share research findings and explore solutions to major societal issues.

Previous editions of the conference have attracted more than 120 participants from various fields, including banking, compliance, financial intelligence units, international organisations, and academia.

The 2026 conference, held in collaboration with Cardiff University, the University of Portsmouth, and the London Centre for Commercial and Financial Law, will focus on the role of law in addressing global challenges.

Discussions will centre on strengthening institutional capacity for sustainable economic development and exploring the connection between sustainability and environmental protection, particularly in developing countries.

For Bende Constituency, these issues have direct relevance, as they relate to the need for effective representation that understands and engages with global conversations on development, sustainability, and economic growth.

Dr Anyaso’s participation at the conference places Bende among the communities represented in discussions involving international legal and economic experts. His address is expected to highlight the potential of the constituency and its people on a global platform.
