Top political leaders, business figures, and community members on Saturday gathered in Onicha Olona, Delta State, as billionaire businessman Tony Elumelu laid his father-in-law, Sir Israel Ogbue, to rest.

The funeral attracted several high-profile dignitaries, including Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and Senator Ned Nwoko.

Also in attendance were members of the House of Representatives, such as Victor Nwokolo and Ngozi Okolie, alongside key political figures including the Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Arthur Akpowowo, and the House Majority Leader, Emeka Nwaobi.

Other attendees included the APC State Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, the Chairman of Aniocha North Local Government Area, Bazim Chinyere, as well as party leaders, business associates, and members of the community.

During a night of tributes held at St Peter’s Anglican Church in Onicha Olona, family members and associates paid glowing tributes to the late Ogbue, describing him as a unifier whose life reflected service, integrity, and strong faith.

The Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Asaba, Rt Rev Kingsley Obuh, who officiated at the service, praised the deceased as a devoted Christian and an active contributor to both church and community development. He encouraged attendees to emulate his virtues by living lives defined by humility, service, and faith.

In a tribute on behalf of the family, Ebele Ogbue described the late patriarch as a man who lived a meaningful and impactful life, leaving behind values rooted in discipline, hard work, and dedication to family and education.

He noted that although the deceased lived to an advanced age, his passing remains deeply felt by his loved ones. The family, however, expressed belief that he has found rest in a better place and pledged to uphold the values he lived by.
