Labour Party leaders in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State, have reaffirmed their firm support for Governor Alex Otti while unveiling three strategic committees aimed at strengthening the party’s structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decisions were contained in a communiqué released on Monday following a strategic meeting convened by the Chairman of the stakeholders’ forum and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba.

During the meeting, the stakeholders praised Governor Otti for what they described as the significant transformation taking place across Abia State. They highlighted key projects in Nsulu, including the Abia International Airport, the Umuomaiukwu Smart School, and several ongoing road construction projects.

The gathering also resolved to promote greater unity within the Labour Party in Nsulu, emphasizing that every member, regardless of when they joined the party, should be treated equally and given the opportunity to contribute to its progress in an atmosphere of mutual respect and inclusiveness.

According to the communiqué, jointly signed by Pastor Caleb Ajagba and the Joint Acting Secretaries, Dr. Chibuzo Emeruwa and Dr. Enyichukwu Olumba, the stakeholders agreed to intensify grassroots sensitisation and mobilisation across Nsulu communities to effectively communicate the achievements of the current administration and strengthen support for the Labour Party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The communiqué stated, “We reaffirmed our commitment to supporting all candidates of the Labour Party at every level of the forthcoming elections, recognising that the success of the party depends on collective responsibility, unity of purpose and coordinated action.”

The stakeholders also welcomed assurances from the Chief of Staff that the Abia State Government had approved compensation for individuals affected by the land acquisition for the Abia International Airport. They expressed confidence that all qualified beneficiaries would receive their entitlements.

In addition, they commended the government's efforts to tackle electricity challenges in Nsulu, particularly in Umunna Nsulu, expressing optimism that work on the project would begin soon.

They further encouraged eligible indigenes of Nsulu to take advantage of the state government's empowerment and capacity-building initiatives, including TECHRISE, the Abia Leadership Academy, the Abia Smart School Initiative, and other youth-focused development programmes.

To ensure effective implementation of the resolutions reached at the meeting, the stakeholders approved the establishment of three strategic committees: the Empowerment Committee, the Voter Education and Sensitisation Committee, and the Mobilisation Committee.

The Empowerment Committee will identify, profile, and coordinate qualified beneficiaries for government empowerment, entrepreneurship, employment, and capacity-building programmes.

Meanwhile, the Voter Education and Sensitisation Committee will focus on educating eligible voters about the importance of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection, civic participation, and the achievements of the Labour Party-led administration.

The Mobilisation Committee has been assigned the responsibility of strengthening the party’s grassroots structures, fostering reconciliation among members where necessary, coordinating stakeholder engagement, and mobilising support for Labour Party candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The stakeholders also appealed to the government to accelerate the execution of ongoing and proposed infrastructure projects in Nsulu, particularly strategic road projects and other critical public facilities capable of driving socio-economic development across the area.

They urged Labour Party members and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the electioneering period by embracing issue-based campaigns, political maturity, civility, and responsible democratic participation.

The forum concluded by appreciating Pastor Caleb Ajagba for his leadership and commitment to the development of Nsulu, while reaffirming its collective determination to work together in sustaining good governance and strengthening democratic participation.
