The 2001 set of Government College Ketu (GCK), Lagos, has celebrated its silver jubilee with a series of activities that brought together former classmates, teachers and other members of the school community.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, members of the set paid a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, who was a member of the class.

The delegation was led by the alumni president, Damilare Shittu, alongside the anniversary committee co-chair, Rhoda Adeniji, and Welfare Secretary, Deji Ogunsanwo.

Receiving the delegation, Emetu expressed appreciation for the visit and pledged his support for the silver jubilee celebrations.

He also commended the anniversary planning committee for the work it had put into organising the reunion, expressing his anticipation for the grand celebration.

Earlier, members of the set held a press parley where details of the anniversary programme were unveiled.

Speaking at the event, Shittu described the 25th anniversary as an opportunity for members to reflect on their individual journeys since leaving the school and reconnect with the institution that shaped their formative years.

“Twenty-five years is not just a number. It represents the journeys we have each taken since leaving those gates, the careers built, the families raised, the lives touched,” he said.

Shittu added that the anniversary would provide an opportunity for members to reflect on their achievements and recommit themselves to the institution.

A major highlight of the celebrations was a football and games day held on Saturday, where the GCK Class of 2001 faced the Lagos State Model College, Kankon, Class of 2001, in various sporting and recreational activities.

The activities included football, paintball, snooker, table tennis, swimming and PS5 gaming.

The sporting event was followed later in the evening by a grand silver jubilee gala.

Former teachers who played important roles in shaping members of the class during their school years were also recognised at the gala.

Among those present were Otunba Obajimi, the only principal who served during the class’ six years at GCK, and Prince Osinaike, a retired Tutor General and former housemaster.

The celebration also featured a live performance by Afro-Jùjú music icon, Shina Peters.
