The campaign office utilised by President Bola Tinubu during the 2023 general election in Abuja is currently undergoing renovation as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The office, located in the Central Business District of Abuja, served as the campaign headquarters for Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima during the 2023 polls.
Following the conclusion of the elections, the building was largely abandoned. However, a visit to the premises on Friday revealed that renovation work is in full swing.
The perimeter fence has been repainted in white and blue colours, while the entrance area is being reworked, with old paint scraped off to allow for a fresh and smoother application. Within the compound, construction materials including sand have been delivered, and workers were seen carrying out cleaning and refurbishment activities.
The development comes amid rising political activities across the country in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier approved and released a revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 polls.
Initially, the commission fixed Saturday, February 20, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections, and Saturday, March 6, 2027, for the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections, in line with the Electoral Act, 2022.
However, following the repeal of the Electoral Act, 2022, and the enactment of the Electoral Act, 2026, INEC announced new dates.
Under the revised timetable, the presidential and National Assembly elections will now hold on Saturday, January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2027.
The refurbishment of the Abuja campaign office is seen by observers as an early sign of preparations within the ruling political structure ahead of the next electoral cycle.
